Dubai..........
I’m guessing many of you will have been to Dubai either for business or a holiday. I’ve only ever heard great reviews from family and friends who have been. Thinking of booking a break out there next winter.......... any hotel recommendations? Cheers.

Re: Dubai..........
I've got no interest in food or sitting around in the sun, so the sort of place I'd never go to.

At an age where I'd rather go to places for a bit of sight seeing, as have done all of the carnage shit when younger.

Re: Dubai..........
went out for the first time on a work trip in December

Stunned at the size of the place. Its fucking enormous.

Was surprised at how buzzy the drinking & partying was- I was with a bunch of work colleagues from all over the ME-0 many of whom base themselves there as " we can be bad muslims here" and boy were they living it up under an unwatchful eye of Allah ;-)

I can kind of get why people might want to go on holiday however its not for me nor never would have been- very false and totally £££ obsessed

I think christmas /this time of there year the climate is nice- the remaining 80% of the year its a fucking nightmware

The people providing the services in the hotels are not locals, so it's not really "Arab hospitality"

Poor building work is not just confined to apartment blocks - the company I worked for last time I was out there had a critical office on the 31st floor of a brand new tower block (as an aside, the elevators in which used to drop a foot before ascending or descending - took a bit of getting used to). Four years later the whole tower was condemned and pulled down.

If ever a place could be labelled "All mouth and trousers", that's Dubai.

Re: Dubai..........
I used to have a flat there, bought from new and sold it several years later. I was horrified at the condition of it after not seeing if for 4 years and pretty much sold it the next day. All the buildings look great from the outside but are no better than prefabs and a lot will need pulling down at some point. The incentives aren’t really there for a lot of expats anymore and times will get tough out there. That said it is very safe, great standard of hotels, gaurenteed sunshine and so always a good destination for short holidays. I quite like the place for what it is but can imagine I’d soon tire of it if I lived there.

I've lived and worked here for 7 years, I fucking hate the pace now, but a few years back it was a good crack as I met a group of West Hams fans almost immediately and we were out all the time.

I'd still say its one of the best places to bring up a young family as there is zero crime, teachers just teach and are not Momentum activists and you haven't got news and media forcing liberalism and multiculturalism down your throat 24/7. Kids maintain their innocent a lot longer and there are no grooming gangs to speak of.

Only been once - a 48 hour in and out job with work

Saw enough to know it's not worth going back again - mike's hit the nail on the head re shallow.

If the locals ever took to gambling and booze there would be no difference between there and vegas

Yeah, these are the type of people who, given a ticket for a flight suddenly become lord of the fucking manor.

I have to go to Dubai fairly frequently and, thankfully don't need to overnight there - it's the most hollow and shallow place on the planet.

Re: Dubai.......... Mina a Salam
I’ve been going to Dubai for years. The Mina a Salam is part of the Jumeirah Madinat group. It’s not cheap and of course it depends on your budget but there is nowhere better in Dubai.
A fantastic resort built on canals with a Souk and four hotels of which you can enjoy the facilities of them all.

Re: Dubai..........
Depends what you want from a holiday I guess, if you want to sit round a pool/beach all day, have excellent service, virtually guaranteed weather and go to top restaurants then it ticks all boxes.

If you want to get out and see stuff then there really isn’t much you would go Dubai specifically for.

Great golf courses though. Unsurprisingly lumpy as fuck.

It’s always appeared to be a place where the most vacuous of Brits go to pretend they a billionaires. Does it have a soul?

If the only attraction is to stay in a really good hotel then just go to London.

Why is is good? I don’t get it. Each to their own though. I guess I’d go if it was a freebie

Bit of an odd place, really. I don't dislike it, but I wouldn't live there. I love next-door Oman, though.

"Lastly, if you want to watch the Irons with people of a like mind, head to the Nelson at the Media Rotana Hotel, Al Barsha."

I can confirm, South Bank Exile is correct.

Be warned though, my arse was hurting so much when i left there, i struggled to sit down on the plane home (the flight was week later).
